Helen Duplassie Bio



As a teenager, Helen loved to draw portraits of friends and family. A graduate of York University, she had a long career in teaching where she took courses to become an Art Specialist.

After retiring at the age of 52 she decided to really explore her creative side and get back into the arts. She started with drawing courses which then led to painting courses. She paints in oils, acrylics, watercolour and dye on silk.
Helen joined Beaux-Arts Brampton in 2006 where she learned so much about being an artist by working with other artists, many of whom have become close friends. She also learned how to plan and run an art exhibit.
She wrote the newsletter for several years and following that she worked on the board as the Director of Administration.

She was instrumental in the success of the Beaux-Arts Mural Project by working with the city of Brampton (who funded the project) and the Brampton Arts Council.

She is also a member of Visual Arts Brampton and their Portrait group as well as Southern Ontario Visual Artists, Artworks Oakville, Visual Arts Mississauga, Joshua Creek and Headwaters Arts at Alton Mill.
Helen has exhibited art in Toronto galleries such as AWOL, Assembly Hall, Carrier, Etobicoke Civic Centre,Twist, Hittite, Neilson Park and more. She also had a piece at the Legislative Assembly. Other galleries in the area include Alton Mill, Beaux-Arts, Helson, Holcim, and The Gallery in Niagara Falls.
Helen is mainly a landscape artist but she also does portraits, still life, and animals.
